About this journal
I write stuff. And here, I mostly write about writing stuff and about writing-related issues. I've been posting poems, lately, and am likely to keep doing so.

Do feel free to friend me -- I shall be thrilled*. And do feel free to unfriend me -- I shall not be hurt. Though, if you are a real-life friend I'd like to know why -- because if I hurt your feelings I'd like to mend that, and if I didn't I'd like not to have to fret :)

I'd also love it to pieces if you tell me a bit about yourself, if I'm unlikely to know you from your lj name (my lj powers are weak). At some point when I'm finding it a bit less overwhelming, I'll be friending people back; I just haven't the focus to figure it all out just now.

I think that's everything for now :)

* ETA: Though, please read this before deciding if you want to friend me, because I am not necessarily going to make you comfortable, and I am entirely out of patience with so-called allies who only want validation & cookies.

Hi! I read one of your stories in Strange Horizons and loved it. I, too, am a poet and fiction writer, and I love how you stretch across genres and categories of writing.
shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on April 1st, 2009 04:36 am (UTC)
Hi, and thank you!
It's more an inability to stick with any one genre/category, in my case :)

Do you have work online?

"Zoh mai gawd!"
I'sa Shwee! :O

Eeeeeeeee! :D
*runs circles around you then tackle-hugs*

I didn't know you had an LJ! Sneaky peep! How're you?

P.S. Excuse the reply to your announce-tagged post. I didn't wanna squee at any of your more up-to-date and intellectually stimulating posts as derailing them in any way, shape or form would've made me a very sad pandaggis. ;P

P.P.S. You'll know me from my LJ name. This made me giggle. *snicker*

P.P.P.S. Friended. :D

P.P.P.P.S. Any excuse for 4 P's in a post-pod amuses me for no apparent or discernable reason. Mehhehe! 0:)

I just saw that you're also interested in cognitive linguistics, so we have something in common.
shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on July 4th, 2009 07:04 pm (UTC)
Hi! Do you have a particular cog ling interest? I'm mostly looking at how linguistic and nonlinguistic information is integrated (which is to say, I'm studying comics *grin*)

Hi! We may have met briefly at Wiscon 2008? I keep seeing your work around the internet and it's really incredible, I'm not sure why it has taken me this long to realize that you would be a good person to friend.

I am, er, Alena. I'm teenaged and a writer and all sorts of things.
shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on July 14th, 2009 08:45 pm (UTC)
Hi! Thank you, and welcome. (Did we meet at the YA panel, by any chance? My memories of wiscon are all blurry from the Massive Overstimulation...)

Your posts about your novel make me both giggle and want to get back to mine :) And your IB extended essay sounds cool. I remember when a friend of mine did hers on ... er... something about art and text and text as art (it was a while ago and mostly I remember the effect she got by writing in columns rather than rows for a paragraph) I was a bit envious that I didn't get to do one. Silly me -- now I am, only it's a dissertation and is very extended indeed. And me with a third of a novel going "You know you'd rather write me..."

I'm here from Nira and I as well, and am thrilled to discover there's lots more of your wonderful writing online for me to read. :D

I love to write too, and am mostly fascinated by faeries.

shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on July 14th, 2009 08:57 pm (UTC)
Hoi, welkom, en dankjewel :)

Your post on YA fiction, adolescence, and risk-taking makes a whole lot of sense to me. elsmi and I were just thinking about that with regard to the decisions characters make in blackholly's Tithe.

I have a few faerie thingies online! There's One For Sorrow in Shimmer 10, Apsara and Displaced in the current issue of Goblin Fruit, and Half Flight, which is fairytale, at any rate, in JoMA.

Hi ...

I find myself viewing your blog often via other folks (sartorias, mostly), and am usually interested in the conversations.

LJ seems like a fun place to hang virtually, but I'm not particularly faithful with it. I'm gearing up to attend Sirens, so am trying to re-engage literary brain.

Other random bits: I live in Maryland and work as a layout designer for the local library system. It's fun working in a building full of books!

shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on July 23rd, 2009 11:01 pm (UTC)
Thanks for coming by :) I'm not terribly good at regular lj attendance myself, but so far I've learned a lot from the conversations I have paid attention to.

I just don't know how people manage to keep up with all of it!

Hi there :) Another poet who should have added you a long time ago. Sorry about that, and for not having read your poetry 'til today, especially since GF publishes us both! :O
shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on July 26th, 2009 07:51 am (UTC)
Hi back! I'm very glad you found me, because I love your poems and find them extremely creepy :) But I fail at livejournal, and hadn't put your lj-name and your real name together till today.

Hi! It is delightful to find cool poets, all the more because I've only recently admitted that yes, I might actually be a poet myself and not just someone to whom inexplicable moments of poetry happen :)

Thank you :)
I'm a sort-of-academic myself (in linguistics); how strongly I'll claim to be one depends on how long it's been since I've been well enough to make dissertation progress.

Belatedly: Hi! I know you :)

My brain is full of fuzz, so right now I don't remember anything properly, but I am certain I've read & liked a dark creepily matter-of-fact fantasy story of yours. Was it in SH?

Just added you. Read "Charms" last evening. Fine story! I'm a fiction writer, interviewer. Used to do interviews at The Fix, now do them elsewhere and on my blog. And I don't really look like Audrey Hepburn. ;-)

Hi, I enjoyed "Nira and I" and am happy to have a way to get updates when you'll have more work online/in print.

Sadly, I resmble my userpic more everyday.

shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on September 13th, 2009 09:39 pm (UTC)
Let's try that without edit errors...
Thank you! I'm delighted that you like it. Sorry for the delayed response, I somehow lost this message in email backlog or something.

I do have a couple of other stories available online -- Charms in Strange Horizons and Half Flight in the Journal of Mythic Arts :) There's also a story called One for Sorrow in Shimmer issue 10, which is available for free download.

And I need to update it, but here's a list of what I have published :)

Hi Shweta,

I just read Nira and I on the Strange Horizons website and really liked it, so I thought I would put myself in a position to read more from you. :)

I write quite a bit myself though, in all honesty, when it comes to larger works, I start far more than I finish!
shweta_narayanshweta_narayan on October 3rd, 2009 07:03 am (UTC)

Welcome, and I hope you'll like, er, other stuff too. :) Forgive the lack of coherence, it sort of comes and goes with how recently I had an asthma attack.

I have yet to finish a novel m'self, but I'm still hoping!
